I recently took a long weekend trip to Madrid with my family, and as this was pretty close after my Celiac diagnosis, I was a little apprehensive about this trip. I took the time to do a lot of advanced planning, and was really only caught out one lunchtime where I was not able to eat anything, or did not feel safe eating out.
The list of places are as follows:
100% Gluten Free Restaurants:
- Grosso Napoletano – Las Salesas
- They have multiple locations, and not all are gluten free, but this one was 100% GF
- This was the most amazing pizza I have ever tried! EVER!
- Be sure to book a table, we went at lunchtime and it was full.
- Okashi Sanda
- I miss Japanese food and this place did not disappoint.
- Super friendly staff and top notch food – well worth a visit.
100% Gluten Free Cafes/Bakeries
- Celicioso Gluten Free Bakery
- Located in the center of Madrid, a great place to stop during the day
Gluten Aware Restaurants
These restaurants are not gluten free, but have been tried and tested by me. All were aware of Celiac Disease and took the necessary precautions.
- Flavia
- We had a lovely Italian meal here, they were very Celiac aware and took all precautions.
As I get to try new places, I will extend this list but hopefully it helps some people! Let me know if you also have other places I can try and add to this list!
